A Highlander from Ala Mhigo, Godfrid Ironsoul left before the invasion to seek glory and fortune as a sailor. After a short career as a deckhand, he was captured by pirates and sold into slavery. Many months passed. Years, maybe? He couldn't tell anymore. He was used in every meaning of the term. He'd been beaten. Ironsoul had accepted his fate. This was life now. Until one day, it wasn't.An investigation into the smuggling activities of the ship Godfrid served on by the Arcanists of Limsa Lominsa had finally borne fruit. A sting operation, followed by an arrest by mages and marauders put the Ala Mhigan in chains for a time while things were sorted out. When it was discovered that he'd been enslaved, Ironsoul was released. The power the Arcanists held over him and the crew that enslaved him fascinated and intoxicated the man. He wanted that kind of power for himself. He must have it. How else would he ever be safe? Ironsoul signed up that day to become an Arcanist.Godfrid proved to be quite adept at magic, but becoming a powerful mage did not give him the security he sought. He craved more power. The guild had so many rules and regulations and guidelines. They stopped him from reaching his full potential. In his eyes, who had more power than pirates? Free. Beholden to none. Unfettered. No one could harm him if he surrounded himself with the most fearsome crew that ever existed, and gained more arcane power than any guildsman could conceive of. So he joined a crew.His distaste for the sea did not fully abate, however, and he found himself yearning for the clouds instead. He learned of Sky Pirates and their Airships. Fascinated, he sought them out next he was at port, and applied to a crew. Readily accepting a powerful mage such as him, the crew set off with him in tow.His career was successful, and he'd risen to such heights as Bosun, before he stagnated in his research. He'd reached the end of where Arcanistry could take him. But what of Conjury, or Thaumaturgy he wondered? Perhaps one of those held the power he craved.Thaumaturgy was simple. Conjury was elementary. Gatekeepers kept him from studying their further secrets. Black and White magic both forbidden. No matter. They wouldn't stop him from reaching his full potential. He pored over the tomes and the history. There simply must be another way. Finally, he found it, Red Magic. A combination of White and Black magic, but with none of the risks that made its components forbidden! The only problem being that it had seemingly died out.His single minded quest to find a Red Mage to teach him cost him his position as a Sky Pirate. He lost his spot on the crew, which started a chain of events that ended in a mutiny led by the Quartermaster, Drago Soniasch. Ironsoul was unaware of this, however, as immediately after his expulsion from the crew, he'd found a mentor.
